Hazard Analysis Review Task (HART)
HART is Chemco’s version of Field Level Hazard Assessments (FLHA). It is a standard on all Chemco projects and is essential in injury prevention.
Chemco participated in the Construction Owners Association of Alberta’s sub-committee on the development of the Field Level Hazard Assessment Program.
Through the development process several training tools were developed. With the participation from all levels of industry on the sub-committee this program was rapidly accepted by the industrial construction industry and has proven to be a key element to a successful health and safety program.
Field Level Hazard Assessments are designed as a tool for workers and supervisors to use at the start of each task and when conditions change. The success of the program was quickly identified by Chemco and was implemented throughout our organization. Chemco developed its own “Hazard Analysis Review Task (HART) card to enhance process. The HART concept was developed through interaction and communication with our field personnel. The concept’s focus was taking their jobs to heart.
With the introduction of the Working Alone Legislation, Chemco tied the “HART” to meet the legislative requirements. The Working Alone Legislation asks three major questions:

- Will you be working alone?
- Is there a Communication System in place?
- Has a Hazard Assessment been conducted?
Chemco incorporated a section on the HART card to identify the situation and to answer these questions. We also include the identification of micro breaks on the card as well as other components, such as identifying the need for gloves. These additions have helped workers identify different components of our Health and Safety Program and assist them in completing their jobs safely.
Chemco worked with the Alberta Construction Safety Association (ACSA) to add the Field Level Hazard Assessment process to the CSTS program.

The next step was to develop a video that could be used by industry as a training aid. Chemco provided the ACSA with our “HART” card and they adopted Chemco’s card as a standardized card which they offer to the industrial, commercial and residential work sites.
