Modified Work Program
Our Modified Work Program enhances Chemco’s Disability Management Program. Chemco is diligent and focused on assisting an injured worker in their recovery and dedicated to healthy living of employees. WCB and the construction industry have recognized the success of our program.
Chemco’s management takes an aggressive approach to this program by:
1. Increasing supervisor training on Disability Management.
2. Locating medical practitioners willing to work with Chemco employees and WCB. The alliance
with the Medical Practitioner includes inviting them to our work sites to review the work we do,
as well as the modified work we offer. This approach assisted in the buy-in from the workforce,
as the medical practitioner is not seen as a company employee.
3. Ensuring early reporting. Intervening early helps to facilitate rehabilitation and
reduces recovery time.
4. Medical Practitioner identifying restrictions to ensure employees can be assigned
work that will not aggravate their condition.
5. Monitoring employee’s condition to ensure recovery process is proceeding
in a positive direction.
6. Providing employees with work within their restrictions to assist their return
to pre-incident/illness work.
7. Utilizing a Comprehensive Limitation Form to assist medical practitioners
and supervisors in this process.
Non-Occupational Injuries
An integral part to our Disability Management Program is the reporting of non-occupational injuries. These injuries are dealt with similar to an occupational injury. We document reported non-occupational injuries/illnesses. We attempt to accommodate employees who require modified work for non-occupational injuries. Knowledge of non-occupational injuries/illness helps us to better distribute work appropriately among our employees, providing less hazardous work, if available, which reduces the potential for incidents or aggravations. Employees feel comfortable reporting non-occupational injuries/illness, because they know that management will be proactive in coming up with a solution that will help make their day easier. Employees recognize management's commitment to their well being because Chemco cares about all injuries/illnesses. An example of this is Chemco making “Safety at Home” part of the safety meetings. Contacting employees, who are off work due to medical reasons assures them of our commitment to their well being.
Effectiveness of our Return-To-Work Program
With the enhancements we made to our Return to Work Program, we continue to maintain 100% return to full duties in a timely manner. The Return to Work Program’s effectiveness has assisted Chemco in retaining the highly skilled and productive workforce that makes up Chemco’s family.
