Prairie Rose LAO Plant
Joffre, AB.

The Prairie Rose LAO Project (Linear Alpha Olefin) was built over a two year period from 1999-2001, on the site of the Nova Chemical Plant at Joffre, Alberta. Chemco Electrical Contractors Ltd. performed more than 610,000 man-hours of work on the electrical, electrical instrumentation, and electric heat tracing systems under subcontract to Kellogg Brown and Root. The scope of work included two 13.8KV redundant main power feeders and associated electrical systems and controls. The instrumentation work was comprised of 3,300 instrument loops. The electric heat tracing system involved the installation of 250,000 feet of heating cables and associated controls. The main piperacks were modularized, which required the installation of cable tray, lighting, and electric heat tracing to be installed in the module yard with completion and tie-ins at the plant site. Chemco also provided start-up and commissioning assistance direct to the BP plant operations personnel and engineers during the final construction phases and for a period of six months after completion of the project.
